Course Outline

What is Pargetting?

Pargetting is the forgotten art of sculpting walls with lime plaster. Once popular in Europe, this decorative craft transformed plain surfaces into angels, patterns, and stories carved directly into the walls themselves.

In this episode of Wood, Stone & Steel, we meet James Collier — a modern pargetter keeping this tradition alive. From bold reliefs to delicate detail, his plasterwork shows how timeless artistry can still shape our built environment today.

Wood, Stone & Steel

We promote the use of more natural materials and artistry in the built environment. We believe the built environment should be warm, welcoming and remind us of our home in nature.

Therefore, we showcase structures primarily made with natural materials and the craftspeople and design professionals that bring them to life.
